Department for Transport Working Party

On Friday July 19th ESSCRP were delighted to welcome a working party of 12 volunteers from the Department for Transport. (DfT). The DfT encourages its people to volunteer for up to four days a year, not only to give back to the community but also to provide team building opportunities. They contacted us to see if we had any suitable projects and of course we were only too happy to oblige.
Our chosen project was a neglected overgrown bed at Marks Tey station. We were ready to welcome our volunteers when they arrived with equipment, compost and plants for the planned transformation and of course with hot drinks and biscuits to keep them going. “Neglected” and “overgrown” was something of an understatement as we discovered, tackling the brambles. But our enthusiastic cheerful volunteers rose to the challenge as the mountain of weeds they removed testified. By the end of the day the new plants were safely in the ground. It’s still a work in progress but the hard work of the working party produced great results.
