Join our Community Rail officers for a history walk along the bank of the river Colne between Hythe station and Wivenhoe.
Meeting at Hythe station in the East of Colchester, we will walk out along this ancient river through the citys industrial past and out into the countryside, past the University of Essex and on past the village of Rowhedge on the opposite bank to the historic town of Wivenhoe.
You will be told about the Roman history of the river, as well as the more recent history of boatbuilding, artists and student protests throughout the walk.
Show your rail ticket to the Community Rail Officer to receive a free tea or coffee when we arrive in Wivenhoe, where you have the choice to have a packed lunch in Wivenhoe park or choose one of Wivenhoes many cafes and pubs for a lunch by the water before returning by train from Wivenhoe station.
The path we will be walking is clear and even in most places, but please wear suitable footwear for walking. Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather on the day, bring a reusable bottle of water. Our officer will be carrying a first aid kit at all times.
