Wizards of Hockley

23 June 2025

Last Tuesday, the dedicated and inspiring station adopters at Hockley, in close collaboration with Greater Anglia, organised a very successful and memorable school trip to Southend. With the sun shining on a glorious June day, 60 pupils from Westering Primary School were treated to a free Harry Potter inspired trip to the coast.

With Hockley station decorated and a special welcome from a certain wizard, pupils were whisked away down the line to Southend where they were greeted by representatives from Greater Anglia. What followed was a fascinating tour of the station and engaging talks from industry experts on how the railway works. However, the highlight of the trip had to be the behind the scenes look at one of Greater Anglia’s new trains, which had been reserved exclusively for the pupils. Our station adopter Pat commented, “The staff who led each participation group pitched their information to the children in such a wonderfully warm and interesting way. The children were so excited about everything.”

There is no doubt that this event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible efforts of the amazing volunteers at Hockley and the wonderful staff from Greater Anglia. It is great to see such close collaboration between the community and our rail industry.
