A group from Level Best recently enjoyed a trip from Colchester Town to Walton on the Naze!
The group chose to visit the Essex Wildlife Centre and enjoyed a walk around the beautiful Naze Nature Reserve. To make the trip accessible for everyone, a community bus was arranged to take the group from Walton station to the Naze. It’s normally a forty‑minute walk, which can be challenging for some participants, so the transport made a real difference.
Once there, the group explored the reserve and learned about the area’s fascinating fossils, including the unique left‑handed whelk shells found only along this stretch of coastline.
A highlight of the day was one of the participants seeing her artwork poster at Colchester Town station for the very first time.
After a very windy walk around the reserve, everyone warmed up with lunch and cakes at the Wildlife Centre, all under the watchful eye of the centre’s impressive megalodon shark model hanging from the ceiling. The group then made their way back to Colchester by train.
A big thank‑you to the station teams at Colchester and Walton, as well as the guards on both journeys, for being so helpful and attentive throughout the day.
