Station Spotlight: White Notley

11 August 2025

Introducing our new series: Station Spotlight! Every month we select a station to showcase in order to celebrate the work carried out by our brilliant station adopters.

White Notley station, once the least-used station in Essex, has seen a heartwarming transformation thanks to the dedication of its station adopters, led by Scott Dolling and his family. Having a deep personal connection to the station—Scott’s parents were former crossing keepers—the Dollings adopted the station in 2023 through Greater Anglia’s Station Adoption scheme. Their goal was to breathe new life into the station and reconnect it with the local community.

The adopters have organised events to raise the station’s profile, including a festive collaboration with White Notley CofE Primary School. In December 2024, all 105 pupils visited the station to sing Christmas carols, bringing joy to passengers and locals alike. For many children, it was their first experience travelling by train, making the event both educational and memorable. These initiatives have helped foster a sense of pride and belonging, turning the station into a vibrant community space.

Through gardening, heritage promotion, and community engagement, the adopters have made White Notley station more than just a transit point—they’ve made it a symbol of local spirit and collaboration. Their efforts exemplify how grassroots involvement can rejuvenate even the quietest corners of the rail network.
