This month it’s Hockley!
Hockley railway station is on the Shenfield to Southend Line in the East of England, serving the village of Hockley, Essex. It is around 35 miles down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Rayleigh to the west and Rochford to the east. The line from Wickford to Southend and Hockley station was opened on 1 October 1889. Freight traffic ended on 5 June 1967 and electrification of the Shenfield to Southend Victoria line was completed on 31 December 1956.
The station is currently managed by Greater Anglia, which also operates all trains serving it. The typical off-peak service is three trains per hour to Southend Victoria and three to Liverpool Street.
Our wonderful station adopters have been really busy organising events with the local community and their station gardens have gone from strength to strength. Their talking bench provides a great place to sit and enjoy the sunshine on a nice day, whilst the plants in the garden would pique the interest of any aspiring horticulturalist. At the time of writing, the station adopters are currently preparing for their upcoming open day on Thursday 17th July. If you happen to be in the area, why not drop in from 10:30am to meet the team and sample some lovely homemade cake!
We can’t wait to see how the Hockley station community will continue to grow in the coming years.
