The ESSCRP and one of our station adopters went along this morning to a ceremony unveiling a plaque in Witham commemorating Ben Sainty, whose fast action saved lives during what was considered Essex’s worst rail disaster over 120 years ago. The service was held on the River Walk on Armond Road, close to the railway bridge. It was a short service with a few words from the Mayor, the Rev. Pritchard and a minute’s silence at 10.29 (the time of the crash) followed by a few words from the great great grandson of Ben Sainty.
