New garden at Battlesbridge

23 June 2025

Last Wednesday the ESSCRP team, along with a dedicated station adopter, were busy planting up a new station garden at Battlesbridge! This project has been long in the making and it was great to see it completed with the help from our contractors, Hollywell.

The plants chosen had been selected due to the dry conditions at Battlesbridge and took inspiration from flora more commonly seen in the Mediterranean, in recognition of the fact that the station is often a suntrap.

While it is one of the least used stations on the Crouch Valley line, Battlesbridge has a character all of its own and is a haven for an incredible amount of wildlife. Following the recent installation of bat boxes and new tree planting, one is as likely to see bats and birds, as much as butterflies and bees, depending on the time of day.

Battlesbridge station is also conveniently located near to the various antique shops and tearooms that the area is well known for, making a trip to Battlesbridge station the start of a fun and interesting day out.

It will be interesting to see how the station flourishes in the coming months and years; watch this space!
