Herb Gardens and Wildflower Planters

12 July 2021

Six wonderful herb gardens and two large wildflower planters have been installed at seven stations, attracting wildlife and catching the attention of passengers.

Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership worked with the Bee Friendly trust, and with funding from the Community Rail Network, were able to provide the stations with six herb gardens and two large wildflower planters.

These herb gardens and wildflower planters are located at Great Bentley, Colchester, Sudbury, Witham, South Woodham Ferrers, Althorne and Bures station.

The Bee Friendly trust had a working party to install them over Friday 9th July and Tuesday 13th July, all whilst working in difficult conditions, with it raining most of Friday.

The station adopters at Bures were out in force, wheelbarrowing topsoil into the newly installed planters. Not only do they look fabulous, they are also great for the wildlife, attracting bees, insects and other animals.

Comprising of 9 herbs in each herb garden, commuters can help themselves to a handful of herbs as they travel through the stations.
