Great Bentley Open Day

27 May 2025

Last Thursday saw our first open station of the year at Great Bentley, the station looked superb due to the hard work of the station adoption group: Peter, Dawn, Jane, Christine and Roy.

Over 30 station adopters turned up to see Great Bentley Station and to catch up with each other. They were also invited to a guided walking trail around the village.

Four new posters were also on display featuring local photos taken by Jane Fisher, along with a new leaflet highlighting the walk around Great Bentley. Both of these initiatives were funded by the Community Rail Network.

And of course there was homemade cake/tea and coffee, and award winning shortbread by Peter’s wife, which was lovely!

Bram, a former train driver for Greater Anglia, arrived to give a rail safety talk to the children at the local primary school. The children had already produced some pictures celebrating 200 years of the railway and ESSCRP had reproduced these on to a banner which was also installed today.  The Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Nigel Spence, was on hand to present certificates to each child who had produced one of the pictures.
