Train teaching

5 November 2025

Thanks to the Greater Anglia CCIF funding a Essex diaspora community had the opportunity of an English lesson on the Sunshine Coast line to Colchester. Most of the group had some form of physical disability and train and station staff were amazing at every change of train that the group went through.

The group were able to talk to staff at the station and on the trains, despite train travel being a new experience for some of them. The group, including language teachers and volunteers, then went on to a local board games café, where they played Backgammon, Cluedo etc.

Travel issues raised on this trip will be used in an infographic sheet that will be created in 2026 by students at Colchester Institute to help anyone who doesn’t have English as a first language.
