On 16 September 2025, station adopters from the Crouch Valley and Southend Lines gathered at Champions Hall for a memorable event commemorating Railway 200—a nationwide celebration of two centuries of railway history and its enduring role in connecting communities.
The afternoon brought together volunteers, local dignitaries, and rail industry representatives for a warm and engaging programme of talks, conversation, and shared stories. Guests enjoyed tea and lunch, with a show-stopping Railway 200-themed cake serving as the centrepiece of the celebration.
Speakers offered insights into the evolution of Britain’s railways, while station adopters presented their own research into local railway history. Their findings were brought to life through a specially designed poster, highlighting the unique heritage of the region’s stations.
Attendees also learnt about the newly published book by the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership, which captures the history of the Britain’s railways.
With the local mayor and rail operator representatives in attendance, the event was a heartfelt tribute to the volunteers whose dedication continues to shape and enrich the railway experience for all.
