On Saturday 12th July, the Essex & South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership turned an ordinary train ride into a nostalgic celebration of 1980s music and culture. Departing from Marks Tey station, the event featured two round trips along the scenic Gainsborough Line, with passengers dancing to the sounds of the decade courtesy of DJ Tufty!
The disco magic was confined to a single carriage, but that only added to the charm. Lights, retro tunes, and a lively crowd created an atmosphere that felt more like a pop-up nightclub than public transport. From Sudbury to Marks Tey and back again, the beats kept rolling for nearly two hours, with classics from artists like Madonna, Prince, and Duran Duran.
The event sold out quickly, proving that the appetite for 80s nostalgia is alive and well!
ESSCRP’s disco train wasn’t just a themed ride—it was a celebration of community and music. For those on board, it was a night of sparkle, rhythm, and pure retro delight.
