The second year of our bucket and spade train was a great success with over 90 children joining the train from Colchester to Walton!  Lots of fun on the decorated train which left Colchester Station at 9.56am on Wednesday the 10th August.

Bucket and Spade success

The train was buzzing with music and the Harwich theatre company who kept us entertained this year.  Children on board had chance to take part in guess how many gems in the jar and activity packs were given out.  The train was brightly decorated and passengers were uplifted with the unusual Saturday morning train journey.

Another successful year, we'd like to thank Abellio Greater Anglia for supporting us.

A weekend event to promote the gardens at Bures gave us the opportunity to promote not only The Gainsborough Line but the other 4 lines as well, lots to offer with walks and attraction leaflets to encourage travel by train exploring our lovely countryside.

We set up in the church for two days, David and Anne Taylor were keen volunteers and we took our turns in manning the stall.  Jayne also got a chance to look around a few of the gardens and experience a cream tea (very nice it was, too).  It is highly recommended to put it in your diary’s for next year that the next open gardens is the last bank holiday weekend in May 2017.

We finally see the new train planter delivered and in place on the up platform at Great Bentley Station.  Terri along with Petrina and Jayne spent a pleasant morning planting the carriages up with colourful bedding plants which should show a wonderful array of bloom!

The planter similar to the one at Frinton Station, was made by the men at the Shed project in Maldon.

They have done a marvellous job in making this at a fraction of the cost.

Julia and Sue braved out the rain on Sunday the 12th June 2016 to man the Essex and South Suffolk CRP stall, the sun finally came out and Julia and Sue were kept busy promoting the branch line and further afield.

Julia who is a keen rail traveller certainly had lots of information and knowledge to pass on!
