North Fambridge today has been transformed Jayne and Lynda from Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership were joined by a volunteer working party from the Department of Transport, Norman and Barry (Greater Anglia’s mobile maintenance team), and Freddie a station adopter from South Woodham Ferrers.

The plan for the day was to change the soil in the three large planters, and plant with perennials and pansies for a splash of colour and to brighten the planters with a coat of paint.  Some of the existing plants we moved to the smaller troughs at the front of the station.

The anchor was also painted and a beach area was created using gravel.  Not wanting to waste the soil removed from the planters a new wild life garden is being created London end of platform 1 this will be planted with wild flower seeds. We are looking forward to watching this garden develop over the summer months.

We are also planning to install some artwork in the shelter on platform 2 this together with the new planting will truly brighten the station for all of the local community to enjoy.

Mark Norton the volunteer organiser from the DFT said “that it is great to get out of the office and something that benefits the community in a direct way.”
